New York Woodlanders Gathering 2009
MAKING THINGS:
Bull Roarers, Rich Pillar. This was the surprise event of the Gathering.
On Friday, Rich talked about the aboriginal nature of these objects and how they were thought to be the voice of god. He then set up a shaving horse and showed how to shape a piece of wood so it wood "roar" when spun fast on a string.
Somehow the simplicity and sound of it got everybody's attention and the entire afternoon and some of the next day were spnt making different sizes and kinds of Bull Roarers:
On September 13, they made their way to the top of Mt Marcy, the highest point in New York State, with woodlander Laurie Seeman and several of her friends:
god's voice at the top of the world!
