MASKS

First, a brief introduction to Making:

Making is the human way of being in the world.  Making is a way of outering or uttering what we know, feel, believe, desire. Our objects --both made, bought and gifted-- become our milestones, and our millstones.  Making is creating order and --disorder-- patterns and --new patterns--on the materials around us.  These patterns, textures, forms are the ways we try to understand who we are and how and why we are changing.  Making is as fundamental as breathing.

Making Masks   is a way (there are many) to explore the less obvious, less accessible parts of ourselves.  We can make our way into the unconscious. The Masks we make can help us know better the fleeting, shadowy, elusive parts of ourselves which carry great power over our actions.

There are really no special materials or tools needed to make a mask.

Whatever is at hand can be the start of the mask-making. It's mostly about attitude and adventure... a piece of paper, a stick, a leaf, a paperbag, a shell ...

Mask-Making Workshops

Friday, April 17, 3-5pm

Saturday, April 18, 10-noon

at Dan Mack's Workshop

These workshops are the start of the Warwick Summer Arts Festival, a six-day event at the end of July in various parts of the Town of Warwick, NY. It's our 15th year of doing this!  The Masks will be part of a Jully 22nd Mid-Summer's Night Event.

These first two workshops are part of the fundraising effort to help pay for the the music, dance and arts events. Each workshop is $25.  Dan has a studio, and woods, loaded with materials. He has plenty of mask forms and materials make your own.  You are welcome to come with some of your own favorite things for making masks.  Remember, a mask is a way of learning--discovering, really--more about who you are.  So take a look in drawers and corners and see what's been saved for just this moment.
